New 'Durham Arena' set to enhance Dalton Park area

Included will be a range of leisure facilities, a 15,000-seater music arena and 3,000 parking spaces.

Big plans are afoot near the A19 at Dalton Park, as developers announce a new leisure complex dubbed 'Durham Arena'.

This new development is set to feature a roller skating rink, swimming pool, food court, and a host of other entertainment options including a bowling alley, a massive 20,000sqft gym, climbing walls, and a dance academy.

Not just for the kids, the arena plans also include a nursery/creche, soft play areas, and for the adults, micro bars, snooker and pool rooms, 'virtual darts', and even a music school. Pet lovers will be delighted to find a dog training studio on site.

The heart of the arena will be a 15,000-seater music venue, set to host a range of events from boxing matches to family entertainment nights.

With over 3,000 parking spaces including EV charging stations, the venue promises convenience. The developers say large scheduled events will take place in the evenings to avoid clashing with peak Dalton Park hours.

Though still awaiting formal planning approval, Durham Arena and Leisure Ltd., led by Alex Bastholm (the visionary behind the Dalton Park outlet centre), is the driving force behind the initiative.

The project not only promises to bring a buzz of activity to the area but also aims to create over 1,000 jobs driving additional footfall and contributing to the local economy.
